France or Provence
Amazing Indian and unbleached linen camisole with interesting beading and ties allowing the skirt to be positioned in the back and dating from the Romantic period. Obvious influence of the Paris fashion for this popular camisole whose sleeves are lined with hemp (or thick linen), allowing the swelling of the leg. Beautiful Indian fashionable cotton printed with geometrical patterns, known as “baton rompu”. V-cut in the back, gathered shoulders and front closure with period hooks (traces of rust). Possible modifications in the same period. Nice example of the adaptation of the Paris fashion to a more popular social stratum! Clean washed piece, no holes or stains. Good general condition of colour and conservation.
