England or Europe
Interesting summer dress in cotton muslin embroidered with wool circa 1820/1825 from the late Regency period in England. It is reminiscent of the work of Jane Austin. Bustier with large square neckline applied with green wool cordonnets and echoed on the flounces of the skirt. Balloon sleeves (possibly modified) and high waistline. Round skirt sewn with very fine pleats over a waist belt. Fastenings with ties, brass hooks and three lovely original buttons. Very fine polychrome wool embroidery in chain stitch forming a cluster of flowers with two crenellated flounces at the bottom of the skirt. The flounces are underlined by mounds or roots in pink embroidery. Pleats at bust level highlight the bust. There are a few very discreet yellowish halos and a few small spots on the wool embroidery. No other defects to report. Good general condition in terms of colour and conservation.
