France
Beautiful French Fashion square wool cashmere Paisley shawl woven on a Tire loom and dating from the Romantic period. Named turn-over because of the fabric’s diagonal inversion, allowing the two points to be folded right-side out at the back. This is a French long shawl dating from the Premier Empire, which was reworked into a square in the Romantic period. The decoration of rows of inclined Boteh palms is an exact replica of the Indian shawls of the late Mughal period. Very fine weaving in blue, red and yellow with a tight, angular design called Bâton rompu. Sewn-in reserve in cream pashmina and two corner spandrels. Bangs in tapered pashmina on all four sides. The shawl is French, but the double-pointed reassembly work was carried out in India, as attested by the cream pashmina, the embroidery on the bangs and the embroidered signature in the reserve.
A few tiny moth holes, otherwise clean and easy to handle. Good overall condition in terms of color and conservation.
