Vintage Mixed Media Portrait of a Mustachioed Man With a Hat, Circa 1970’s. Using charcoal and pastels this framed portrait sits under glass, and is matted with a neutral tone mat and rustic wood frame. Drawing the eye to the center of the page, and Leaving the colors of the pastel to speak for themselves. A fabulous subject, drawn with confidence and emotion, which comes through in the piece.

The sight is 24.5″h x 17.5″w and the overall measurements are 32″h x 25″w framed.

Elaine Levine Denenfeld (1928 – 2007). Born in Dayton, Ohio Dayton, A graduate of Traphagan School of Design in New York, Elaine was a life long artist arid a much loved jewelry designer. Married to Stanley Donenfeld, Co-Owner of Donenfeld Inc, a departments store that opened in the 1920s.

MADELEINE LIEPE (Oregon/Switzerland, 1929-2017) Signed lower right and dated 1970, signed again and titled verso; the serene charcoal drawing of lush trees surrounding a pond with a gently rolling lawn in the foreground; good clean condition with only minor discoloration; Madeleine Liepe was a Postwar and Contemporary artist who spent her professional career in Oregon. Her works were exhibited at the Portland Art Museum, as well as many private and public venues, including the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, and the Eugene Public Library. She taught painting at the Maude Kerns Art Center and volunteered with the Oregon Arts Commission, and Maude Kerns Art Center.

Winner of the Prix Othon Friesz, Victor di Gesu first attended the Los Angeles Art Center and the Chouinard Art School before moving to Paris where he studied with Andre L’Hote and Yves Brayer at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. While in Paris, Di Gesu exhibited extensively, including at the Louvre, the Exposition des Artistes Étrangères, the Grand Palais of the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Arts Décoratifs among other Parisian Salons. He subsequently attended Barcelona’s Escuela de Bellas Artes before furthering his studies in Rome at the Studio Hinna. Returning to California, Di Gesu worked beside notable American Modernists including F. Tolles Chamberlain and Maynard Jepson.

Already a gifted colorist, Di Gesu’s classical training combined with his scientific research into color theory, allowed him to create vivid yet harmonious works which, while reminiscent of Matisse and Gauguin, revealed a verve and spontaneity that remained uniquely his own. A prolific artist, Victor di Gesu was the recipient of numerous medals and juried awards, both in the United States and France. After his return to California, he continued to exhibit widely and with success, including at the San Francisco Museum of Art, Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art, the Carmel Art Association and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
