This is a stunning and rare Norwegian Baroque oak bureau or bookcase from circa 1760. It comprises 3 sections due to the monumental proportions. The piece features a top section with shaped cornice, below which the carved double doors open to 5 shelves and 4 fitted drawers. The fall front displays matching carvings which open to reveal a fully fitted interior. The shaped interior has a central tabernacle containing 8 fitted drawers flanked either side by 6 shaped drawers. The bottom section holds a concealed shallow drawer and partitions, followed by 3 deep drawers with original handles. The oak furniture stands on bracket feet.
