France
A sack-back gown’s coat and its stomacher named à la française gown, probably for the court, in light yellow silk taffeta embroidered with a stream of flowering stems. Dress coat with train and Watteau pleats in the back, opening out into two wide box pleats in the train. Three-quarter bent sleeves in a ‘sabot’ style with a “bouillonné” effect at the elbow. Rich facings of falbalas in hollow pleats underlined by fine silk trimmings and tapered crests known as “Sourcils de hannetons” in french. Reminiscent of the falbalas on the side slits allowing access to any pockets, which is unusual. The side slits are tightened with a ribbon of cream taffeta (damage to the ribbons). A Stomacher in the same material to be pinned and lined with unbleached linen (modern fastening ribbons to be unsewn if necessary). Original unbleached linen bodice with these ties in the back. Dress coat originally unlined except for a strip of cream silk pongee at the bottom of the coat (minor damage). The blue pettycoat on the pictures does not belong to this sale, and is not for sale. A very slight discoloration of the yellow taffeta, which is very diffuse, and patches of oxidation throughout the dress. The taffeta remains stable, very solid and without holes. The dress is still easy to handle and presentable. Stable condition.
