Vintage Design
This striking long altar table was originally produced in Shanxi province with classic ‘everted’ table ends – a feature denoting that it was made for religious purpose as a display for offerings to Chinese ancestors.
Intricately carved geometric patterns add a wonderful feature to the panels between the legs that incorporate ‘rui’ shapes to symbolise high rank and authority, the spandrels at the top of each front leg each show a coiled dragon.
This long table is almost three metres in length and has been largely stripped back to reveal the natural wood beneath, making this a lovely statement piece as a large console for a hallway or living area in a modern home.
