Paris
Black and cream embroidered taffeta evening dress by Jeanne Lanvin Haute Couture from the 1924 collection. Inspired by the Ballets Russes, this iconic dress with its round neckline, long pagoda sleeves and skirt bottom pleated at the hips, appeared in Vogue USA in May 1924, photographed by Helen Lyons. Bands of champagne organza adorned the collar, the false pockets and the undulating bottom of the skirt. The embroidery is in machine chain stitch and the beads are in white glass, the design forming concentric circles of various sizes, playing on the two-tone black and white effect. The design is typical of the Art Deco period, with a nod to the Surrealist movement and Sonia Delaunay! No lining and famous Jeanne Lanvin label mentioning Jeanne Lanvin Paris Unis France 7 Summer 1924 and numbered 66780. Small gaps in the silk restored to the shoulders and missing pearls especially at the level of the bustier. Average condition. For collectors or Museums only, not wearable.
