Italy
Rare and precious complete Italian chasuble (back and front) dating from the end of the 16th century. Rich curly and chiseled cut velvet in a shades of green, blue-green and yellow-green. Repetitive and tilted decor of bouquets of pomegranates with hooked florets of several sewn period panels, some of which have their original edge. Similar to the velours del Museo del Tessuto by Prato in Italy or the Tissus Museum in Lyon which present some fragments of very similar models. Possible production of Florence (?). Fully lined with thick hemp consolidating the velvet which has rare parts frayed. Very good general condition of color and conservation given its age.
Dimensions: Front 76 cm high x 60 cm wide. Back 123 cm high x 72 cm wide.
