Vintage Design
It still has its original lacquer of cinnabar red and gold decoration which were colours considered to bring luck and happiness to the the couple. The paintings on the doors and bottom fixed panel were once in vibrant, bright gold and the gold leaf was carefully applied by hand in a process referred to as ‘miao jin’. This has largely worn away over time to show just the dark base underneath, leaving just subtle traces of the old paintings of landscapes. The scrolling pattern along the outer frames is slightly clearer, along with the detail of flowers on the front of the extended top.
The cabinet remains in its original condition with just the addition of two removable shelves inside which have been added recently, along with a removable board over the lower compartment.
This stunning cabinet will make a beautiful statement piece in a large living area or bedroom.
