Tunisia
Spectacular ceremonial tunic in adult size or festive Tunisian Jebba for circumcision dating from the first half of the 20th century. Very fine vermilion red wool felt embroidered with floss-silk with a yellow-green plant dye. Clever embroidery using a straight stitch and appliqued with extremely fine braided cords. Pompons in silk shred matched at the bottom and sleeves (one missing on one sleeve). Symbol of the Hebrew Menorah or candelabrum with seven branches in the center of the tunic with probably a Jewish origin (?). Note two tiny moth holes of 1 mm each – under an armpit and in the back – Only defects noted. Clean, without stains, bright colors. Very good condition of color and conservation for the age.
