Louis XIII Style Work Cabinet & Desk Table, Set of 2

The desk is made of solid oak with a mitre-cut top with a scalloped edge. In the frame we find an important doucine moulding. In the centre, this desk has a magnificent wine red leather with a golden vignette. The belt of the desk has a drawer carved with an animal head and corners decorated with grotesque heads. Scrolls and foliage are also carved all around on a granite background. This desk table rests on twisted legs supported by a mass of wood held in place by curved legs. These legs are linked at the bottom by a twisted and turned crosspiece, composed of several elements recessed on the side. This base is embellished with seven turned wooden parts of different heights.

The working cabinet is made up of two elements entirely in solid oak. The upper part has a large drawer carved with scrolls, which are pulled out by an animal’s head. It is flanked by twisted columns topped by large macaroons. In the centre, two moulded doors are carved with large coats of arms on a striated background, surrounded by an oval frame. Inside, there are compartments and small drawers for storage.
The lower part of the piece of furniture is composed of a framed shelf with a wine red leather in the centre decorated with a golden vignette. Underneath we find two mitre-cut doors with a recessed moulding accompanied by a panel in relief in the centre. Inside we find a shelf on a rack.
This set of two Louis XIII pieces of furniture perfectly illustrates this unique style by its decorations and its lighting effects. Both massive and pure, these pieces of furniture with twisted lines will delight the lovers of carved furniture.
